Mythic Fathers:
Exploring fatherhood through myth and story
What stories are shaping the way you father?
Mythic Fathers is a programme for dads who want to explore fatherhood in a deeper way through myth, story, and shared conversation.
Across cultures and throughout history, stories have helped people make sense of life's challenges, transitions, and responsibilities. Fatherhood is no different. By engaging with myths, folktales, and archetypal stories, we create a space to reflect on what it means to be a father, partner, guide, protector, and human being.
This programme isn't about finding perfect answers or following a prescribed model of fatherhood. It's about curiosity, connection, and discovering new perspectives on the joys and difficulties of raising children and being a dad.
Whether you're a new dad, a seasoned father, or somewhere in between, Mythic Fathers offers a chance to step outside the rush of everyday life, share experiences with other dads, and explore the stories that can help us better understand ourselves and our role within our families.
what will the sessions look like?
Each fortnightly session, held in the yurt at Rock Meadow, will centre on a myth or traditional story linked to a specific theme. The story, usually told in three parts, will be accompanied by activities, reflection and discussion exploring our role as fathers through its themes and insights. Between sessions, you'll be encouraged to journal about your parenting experiences and reflections.
Across the six two-hour sessions, we will journey through our own story arcs, exploring how we can step closer to becoming the parents our children need us to be.
Each session will start with a simple meal of soup and bread
You will also receive:
A Mythic Fathers notebook
access to a video retelling of each story with transcript
an optional workbook to explore each session deeper
access to the Mythic Fathers WhatApp group for ongoing community with other dads
Who am I?
I’m Marcus Pibworth, a storyteller and father to two young daughters. I’ve been running Mythic Fathers in one form or another since just after the birth of my first daughter, in 2021. Prior to that I ran a similar space called Stories for Men, focusing on how we can use myth and story to explore a healthy relationship to masculinity and what it means to be a man. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of bringing my story work to many men and many fathers, and it has been a joy to watch the deeply transformational journeys this work can ignite.
